The oceanfront Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach resort, is inviting locals to its sixth-floor pool deck café for the first time since it opened a year and a half ago.
“Spinnaker complements the resort’s nautical theme with a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean while lounging on plush outdoor seating,” says Jorge Ramos, the hotel’s food and beverage director.
Although the deck is usually limited to hotel guests or day passes for $75, the public is invited to a culinary series through September called Asado y Cocteles on select Fridays. It offers changing specialties focused on oak grilling, such as charred cantaloupe with serrano ham ($10) and whole Florida snapper stuffed with veggies ($28). Cocktails, such as rosé sangria ($12), will be specials or signatures.
The first one will take place Friday, May 10.
“We are able to get some great local wood that gives an amazing flavor to the items we are featuring,” Ramos says. “Although our menu is focused on local and Latin American flavors, we will continue to open up additional worldly flavor profiles.”
A guitarist will play flamenco and Spanish-style music during the events from 4 to 7 p.m.
Afterward, the regular Mediterranean-inspired menu will be available, featuring bestsellers such as avocado smash ($14), burrata with basil-chili vinaigrette ($15), and chicken, shrimp or beef skewers with flatbread and seasonal succotash ($16-$19). There also will be signature cocktails such as El Jefe with tequila, lime and ginger ($13) and Passion Fruit Pool Tea with Lillet and peach schnapps ($14). Exotic popsicles and ice-cream sandwiches ($6) are housemade, such as guava-and-cheese coconut macaroon.
The rest of the select Fridays are May 24, June 14 and 28, July 12 and 26, Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27.
