South Florida's favorite R&B, Funk and Top 40 band Pocket Change, kickoff the 2017 Friday Night Sound Waves live music series on Friday, March 10, with a get up on your feet and never stop dancing performance from 6-9pm.

About Pocket Change
Pocket Change is a Funk, R&B, Soul, Motown and Dance/party music Super Group known for its showmanship and hard driving rhythms. Led by bandleader Eddie “The Thrill” Carmichael and music director Otis “Maestro” McCarthy, the group is rounded out by Bill Ferguson, AL West, Lorenzo Davis and Michael Boone.
Bandleader, Eddie “The Thrill” Carmichael began his music career on drums and later switched to guitar. He was tutored and mentored by Joseph R Miller in the art of live performance and music theory; not long after becoming a most sought after stage and studio player.
Music Director, Otis “Maestro” McCarthy is a native Floridian and former member of the Air Force. Tutored by Everette “King” Edwards, Otis played his first club gig at the ripe old age of 12 and by age 16 was a backing musician for George McCrae, Gwen McCrae, Betty Wright and others.
William “Dollar Bill” Ferguson, Pocket Change’s lead baritone singer grew up in a military family, which provided him a diverse and worldly upbringing. Exposure to music came at an early age from singing in church to music performances in high school – but it wasn’t until he moved to Miami that he began his singing career. Bill was a talent promoter/agent when he met and joined “Pocket Change” as MC and vocalist in 2004.
Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Al “The Rifleman” West picked up bass while serving in the US Navy, and went on to performed at numerous US Naval facilities stateside and abroad. A few musical highlights include opening for Santana, Duncan Sheik, Eryka Badu, and David Sanborn during local festivals, such as the Bob Marley Freedom Festival, Miami Music Fest, and West Palm Beach’s annual Sunfest concert series.
Jermaine “JD” Dukes began wielding the sticks at an unbelievable two years of age. For six years he studied and honed his skills in the public school system before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he graduated the Military School Of Music. While assigned to the 77th Army Band, he toured the U.S. for the remainder of his four year term of enlistment. Jokingly referred to as the youngun’, JD is also a full-time student at Florida Memorial University and gives private lessons.
Lead vocalist, Michael Boone is the newest member of Pocket Change. He was born in Belle Glade, Florida where he began his musical journey singing in church. At the age of twelve he auditioned for and was accepted at “The Palm Beach County School Of The Arts” where he studied classical voice, piano and music theory. After college, where he double majored in performing and music business, Michael toured the U.S.and Europe, sharing the stage with “Silk”,”Angie Griffin” and “Fantasia”.
About Friday Night Sound Waves
Featuring some of South Florida’s best musical talents performing an eclectic range of genres including jazz, blues, big band swing, indie rock, salsa and classic Americana, the free live music series aims to entertain area locals, global visitors – from the young to the young at heart. Those attending are encouraged to don flip-flops and set up a beach chair in the sand to take in the ocean breezes and spectacular sights and sounds.
