Underwater photogs and videographers, it’s your time to shine.
Start searching for your best and bluest work—whether it features a day out on the water or the mysterious marine life down below the surface—because there’s a contest (and prizes!) you don’t want to miss out on.
The South Florida Underwater Photography Society and Blue Wild Ocean Adventure Expo are now calling for entries for the Ocean Adventure Photo/Video Contest in the following three categories.
Macro Underwater Photo Any single image taken with a macro/super macro lens of a subject composition recorded in life size at a 1:1 or greater reproduction ratio. The subject or focal point is expected to fill as much of the frame as possible with extreme detail.
Wide-Angle Underwater Photo Any single image taken with a wide-angle lens consisting of a focal length greater than 35mm. The image is made of a wide scene with a subject in its natural environment. Over/under (half below and half above the water) and close focus wide-angle compositions are acceptable in this category.
The Ocean Adventure “Waterman Video Award” A video submission between one and three minutes in length depicting the high adventure of oceanic activities that may include diving, SUP, kayaking, surfing, spearfishing, or any watersport lifestyle activity. Video may include above and below water footage. Editing of video is allowed and expected. Camera on spear gun, mask, head or hand is allowed. Combination of cameras is acceptable.
Submissions are being accepted until April 17.
Entrants can be amateurs or professionals from all over the world. The winners will be announced at the Blue Wild Ocean Adventure Expo in Fort Lauderdale on April 23, but the contestants don’t need to be present to win.
Locals can attend the expo, taking place at the Broward County Convention Center April 23 and 24, to see the stunning contest entries on display. The Blue Wild Ocean Adventure Expo will also feature exhibitors, seminars and workshops covering topics ranging from scuba and spearfishing to boating and marine art.
First prize winners will be able to enjoy one of two trips to the Bahamas valued at more than $1,000; a four-day shark and dolphin diving experience, which includes a stay at Pelican Bay Resort and roundtrip transportation from Fort Lauderdale to Freeport; or a week-long scuba adventure aboard Blackbeard’s Cruises, including diving, all meals and an air-conditioned room.
Second and third place winners will receive photo and video equipment from Fantasea and GoPro.
