Fort Lauderdale Beach - Getting Around

Located in the center of South Florida's Gold Coast, midway between Palm Beach and Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale Beach is an island haven conveniently located 10 minutes from the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport and 5 minutes from Port Everglades.

Directions:

From Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport:
Head east on Terminal Drive. Follow signs for US-1 North towards Fort Lauderdale.
Turn RIGHT onto SE 17th Causeway/ FL-A1A and continue over the bridge.

From Port Everglades
Head North on Eisenhower Boulevard to 17th Street Causeway.
Turn Right on 17th Street Causeway/AF-A1A and continue over the bridge.

Beach Construction Update

Construction continues on the north side of Las Olas Blvd. between A1A and Seabreeze Blvd. The north sidewalk and one westbound vehicular lane will be closed during this work.

On July 9th, a total closure of Las Olas Boulevard between Seabreeze Boulevard ( A1A - south) and Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard (A1A - north) is scheduled to begin. This closure is projected to remain in place until the last quarter of 2018.

Eastbound traffic on Las Olas Boulevard will be detoured south on Seabreeze Boulevard then east on S.E. 5th Street. S.E. 5th Street will allow two-way traffic during the closure.

Northbound traffic on A1A will be detoured west via Poinsettia Street and Cortez Street, then south on Seabreeze Boulevard to Las Olas Blvd.

Getting Around:

From rickshaw-style Pedi-cabs to Bike Rentals, open-air Sun Trolleys to Water Taxis, getting around Fort Lauderdale Beach is an adventure in itself.

The Free Ride

As the name implies, the Free Ride is really free. The service is fun, easy and eco-friendly too boot. They use electric cars to cut out the cost of fuel and work with some great sponsors make the service possible. Tips for your driver are appreciated. Catch a ride any day of the week from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. from points along Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale Beach, The Galleria Mall, Downtown Fort Lauderdale and Victoria Park. Text ahead (please allow 10-15 minutes for pick-up) to 954-603-4500 and the Free Ride will meet you at your door.

 

 

Bike sharing makes it economical and convenient to use bikes for trips that are too far to walk but too short to drive. As a member, you can use an AvMed Rides B-cycle to run an errand, grab lunch, travel from the bus stop to your office, or just get some fresh air.
